Does chipped teeth cause root cs?

i have got my front tooth chiped when i was 8 yrs old and my dentists said when im 17 i can get it crowned so for now its just a cap kinda thing but im 13 and i want to know if its bad i cracked it and if it will cause bad teeth in the future like rotting or stuff etc... i dont want bad teeth i wish it neva happned::(
