Model Aircraft Carrier ?

Before I ask this...Yes I know this was an extremely dumb mistake. I was painting the red portion of the hull (bottom) and did a horrible job of keeping the lines straight. In an effort to correct the problem, I attempted to remove some of the paint with gasoline. Needless to say, a huge mess followed and the hull looks ruined, now completely red and slightly scarred in some areas from the gas. Anyone know a way to salvage this poor model???? I was thinking along the lines of just painting the whole hull gray as a start over. Will that work?
